Lindsay Schmerbeck, M.S.
Lindsay manages various projects at ABLE Operations, LLC . She handles the organization and implementation of the projects, as well as the financial components of the business. Additionally, she ensures each project is handled in a timely manner. Lindsay is also responsible for updating the website and blog.
Lindsay holds a Masters of Science in Elementary Education from Florida State University and has a background in educational research through her work experience at the Florida Center for Reading Research. While at FCRR, Lindsay assisted in conducting basic research on reading, reading growth, reading assessment and reading instruction to benefit students throughout the state of Florida. She supported the development and implementation of language intervention curriculum for Leon County preschoolers at risk for language and literacy disorders as a part of both the Preschool
Classification & Prevention of Reading Disabilities Project and the Building Literacy Opportunities and Outcomes Through Media Project. Lindsay was responsible for developing several educational and technical assistance materials, as well as developing a language and vocabulary curriculum. She also assisted in recruiting school principals, directors and teachers in several research studies. Lindsay also participated in the coordination and implementation of professional development training of both local and nationwide teachers using a research-based curriculum. During this time, Lindsay also provided mentoring and coaching numerous preschool teachers using Literacy Express and Project BLOOM, both locally and nationally.
Lindsay also served as the Site Coordinator for the Okaloosa County portion of the Reading for Understanding Project. She was responsible for hiring and managing a team of 25 interventionists, providing them with training and materials to complete their intervention at a given school and making visits to each location to ensure the validity of the project. Additionally, Lindsay oversaw all of the testing, scoring and placement of several hundred students in the intervention.
Prior to working for the Florida Center for Reading Research, Lindsay taught Fourth, Fifth, Fourth/Fifth Multi-age, and Second Grades while teaching at Betton Hills Preparatory School in Tallahassee, Florida. Here, she created a positive and nurturing classroom environment conducive to learning. She also planned and implemented creative, challenging lessons to ensure students actively participated in the learning process while meeting individual needs, interests, and abilities. Lindsay also developed positive classroom behavior and maintained order in her room. While at Betton Hills, Lindsay was the Student Government Sponsor, the co-founder of the BHPS Theatre Troupe, and participated in after-school and summer tutoring for various children across several subject areas and grade levels.
Lindsay now resides in Sarasota, Florida with her husband, three children and golden retriever. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, cooking and watching football.
